Trial and error tells me that if I want to do one thing, I'm better off using product x over product y, because product x does it better, or simpler. ![]() Any one of them has features that the others don't: Column Select, Apply word wrap, Search and Replace options, not only that they have them (or don't) but, if they do, they behave differently one from the other. I bounce back and forth between Atom, Geany, Gedit Kate and Bluefish depending on what I'm trying to accomplish. I don't understand Vim, NeoVim or Emacs - non-starters. I've looked at Vim, NeoVim, Emacs, Brackets, Atom, Geany, Gedit, and Kate as well as Bluefish. In my estimation, a good editor, shouldn't get in the way of what you're trying to do. Are you simply trying to create or edit a text file? Whatever gets you there the quickest works. Generally, a good text editor is only as good as what you're trying to do. It also permits whitelisting to keep them separate from any changes you make, displaying them in their default state.'s Experience This is currently the most recommended, so, I'll add my comment here. Of course, you can turn it on/off for all if you prefer right from the top rich extension icon. Super Dark Mode for Chrome and Firefox doesn't take much to set up and does include some presets (filters) that you can use to customize it to specific sites and pages like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Still, the main body of the page does not appear to be affected. Some overlays do not render correctly, making certain webpage icons/images incomplete or obscured. It can be useful in helping you conserve battery life and eyestrain during long browsing sessions. Super Dark Mode for Chrome and Firefox is a free extension that allows you to apply a dark theme to websites.
